Carpet Cleaning - Normal Cleaning Routine

February 18, 2020

Your carpet can collect and accumulate dirt pretty fast, and maintaining its freshness and clean look can be next to impossible. However, with basic carpet cleaning routines, it is possible to have a constant new look on your carpet. Before getting to the point of deep cleaning the carpet, there are a number of basic maintenance tips to observe. These tips are a short-term solution to keeping your carpet clean. However, they will ultimately reduce the cost of major carpet cleaning.

Dabbing

Immediately the carpet gets stained, deal with it. Delaying will cause the stain to be tougher to remove and it may even become impossible to clean it off. A fresh stain can be cleaned with a towel by dabbing at the spot. Dabbing involves pressing the towel against the spot on the carpet and lifting back the towel once it has picked up the stain. On the same spot, pour some drops of water, and once more, dab it with a clean portion of the towel. This will leave the carpet with minimal traces of the stain if any. This saves on the carpet cleaning cost, since a dirtier carpet will be more costly to clean. Finally, spray some carpet cleaner on the spot and dab some more until the stain disappears, then allow it to dry.

Dealing With The Dirtiest Carpets

There are portions of the carpet that are more prone to dirt than others are. Portions of the carpet along the hallways of the house and close to the doors accumulate more dirt and at a faster rate. Carpet cleaning such a carpet requires a steam cleaner to do all the work and freshen up the carpet. The following are necessary for restoring your carpet's freshness and new look: a vacuuming machine, hot water, steam cleaner, measuring cup, and a carpet cleaning solution. If you have a large house, you might be required to hire a steam cleaner or purchase one from your local store.

Vacuuming The Carpet

Vacuuming is the first thing that should be done prior to steam cleaning the carpet. This picks up the large particles on the carpet. There are areas on the carpet that are heavily soiled, and will require pre-treatment using a carpet cleaning solution. Use the measuring cup to mix the solution that will be used with the steam cleaner. Have a single cup of the carpet cleaning solution mixed with hot water in the compartment. The steam cleaner is ready for cleaning the carpet - plug it in and start steaming. Do the steam cleaning in an orderly pattern so that you can conserve some of your energy otherwise, you might become worn out before you are done.

The exercise is tiring and time consuming. You can start from one end of the room and move in a straight line to the other end, avoiding going over an area twice. Finally, allow it to dry by opening up the windows. Unless it has dried, do not allow people to step on it. Once it dries, you will get back the fresh smell and great new look you once had.
